Waiting For The Winter Poem by Lindsay King

Waiting For The Winter

The sun is beating down on me
Has been for the past 6 months
I think about what it has brought
Through the scorching sun and pain
And truthfully things I’d rather not
How do you put something in the past
When it’s laughing behind your back?
This light that misery brings
Makes me crave such overcast things
I want to feel the rain come down
Drench these feelings ‘til they go away

I’m waiting for the winter to come
To come and drown out the summer
And give me something far, far better
I’m waiting on the seasonal change
Now I can say come what may
Just to move on and grow
I’m waiting for the winter to come
‘Cause I’ve gone on way too long
Hoping that the clouds would rain

And maybe you’re happier now
Using her to drown out
All the things that you let go
Well I can’t go on hating you forever
It’s a temporary band aid
To forget the summer
Even if you think it’s better this way
Someday I’ll know why things had to change
Never see the signs that will tell me
I’m better off by myself
I’ve just got to let go

I’m waiting for the winter to come
To come and drown out the summer
And give me something far, far better
I’m waiting on the seasonal change
Now I can say come what may
Just to move on and grow
I’m waiting for the winter to come
‘Cause I’ve gone on way too long
Hoping that the clouds would rain

And someday the sun won’t seem so damning
And I’ll hold my own
Better than you know
Like the seasons changed, so did you
Another memory I can’t hold onto
I just want to go outside
And let the rain express
The anxiety I have inside
