Virginia Tech Shooting Leaves 33 Dead On 4/16/07

0715 shots ring out at least two are dead,
Most of the college students are still in bed,
Arising from slumber to check their email,
Everything’s normal with nothing new to tell.

Over 120 minutes have since passed by,
Va Tech police still have not captured this guy,
Until you are 100 percent sure a killer is no longer around,
The only smart thing to do is a total lock down.

I don’t know all the particulars; at this point no one does,
However, better safe than sorry is the right thing because,
30 more are dead, countless others hurt, no email being sent,
Days later we find out to the post office the killer came and went.

Even when an email was sent it would have easily been dismissed,
Nowhere in that message could people understand the seriousness,
It’s true that no matter where we go no place is really completely safe,
With security on the scene no 1 in custody 2 hours is a longtime to wait.

No fault on the part of the student’s who were not made aware,
Some place on the grounds a gunman walking free out there,
With campus police patrolling and dogs on all fours,
The other side of the complex a madman putting chains on doors.

Not to keep the cops out since they were nowhere around,
Bang, bang, bang more bang were the only sounds,
Not two seconds, minutes but just over two whole hours,
At least thirty sets of parents soon to be picking out flowers.

Probably the first two shootings they couldn’t avoid,
But not to sound an alarm, these were real weapons not toys,
Unfortunately the population has to understand in their mind,
There are those who consider the murders hero’s at Columbine.

Even the weather report will give some kind of advance notice,
Yet nothing for a murderer who has only one destructive motive?
This Virginia Tech College must have been overseas some place,
No way could this kind of incident happen again in the United States.

God our Father, creator of everything in heaven and on earth,
It’s humbly that I come before You for more than I’ll ever be worth,
Take away the heartache, comfort; ease a seemingly never-ending pain,
Allow spirit filled sunshine to replace a million tears of falling rain.

Do not hold accountable the one whom Satan’s fiery darts filled his mind,
With demonic thoughts and desires creating actions that were so unkind,
With reverential praise, honor, glory in worshipful prayer & utmost respect,
May Your mercy, grace and compassion bless the Hokies @ Virginia Tech.
