Vestiges Of Childhood Poem by Wasan H Ibrahim

Vestiges Of Childhood

All vestiges of our childhood have gone;
And those innocent smiles and giggles
Have travelled nowhere,
And we are yearning for a one.
A pure one not smeared with care …
A true one not blemished with fear …
All crowning dreams were hanging around us,
Like children around bonbons.
Rebellious were the manners,
Lovely were the curls.
But we grow nearer to the faintest hint
Of the nebulous past…
Nothing forever lasts.
There were many people I saw and met;
There were many things I thought and felt;
Were those all illusions?
Or…has reality melt?
As if there was no you, there was no me
A memory of moments precious and free
Has dispersed and scattered
At the oblivious and fathomless sea.
All our early life has departed long ago,
What left is cold warmth
And a dim afterglow,
And a soul yearns for a soul…
We are a scattered whole, amassed never…
Nothing lasts forever.
