Venus Poem by Euginia Tan

Venus

I dreamt about you last night
And I probably will again
The next night, the next next night…
And then the night after, the nights after…

I said
Hey, Venus
Oh, Venus, Venus, if you will
Please send
A girl with all the charms of you
(Be careful what you wish for)
It doesn't matter to you
What does?
What does impress upon you?
I thought I had your heart
It seems you have mine
Please I want it back

Nowsadays
I look at a postcard and recall
Your messy scrawl
As illegible as you
Getting older never younger
Getting older never wiser
1,2,3,4 and suddenly 17
(What happened to the years in between)

I missed my flight because of you
You said your heart was aching
So I came back
Then I decided I would leave
Anyways, you would have lied
I still need my pride
So I left and you died

This was my dream
Luckily I awoke
And I could hear myself pounding
Against my chest…
I'm so glad to have me back
Whilst you in the grave
Of those who done cursed me
And failed.
