'Upon Their Backs To Bite Em' A Dreamscape Fear Of Death. Poem by Andy Brookes

'Upon Their Backs To Bite Em' A Dreamscape Fear Of Death.

Each line dissolves in itself, invisible, divisible, multiple
yet each singular facet is a facet of a facet,
an amalgam of diamond sharp thoughts cutting deep,
excoriating the soul

sinking inky ways weighs down to slide into the other side
the red queen she laughs echoing like the other, that which we fear those; monsters under the bed or in the cupboard of childhood.

through the mirror pale distortions zip bythe other you's she says
inexorable the multiverse awaits, the other dimensions reel, unravelling the days threads from Penelope's loom.

hoplites defend her with flashing spears as Helen's face launches those ships across the narrow sea, to fight upon the bloodiedplain.
where Hector and Achilles fought and died before the walls of Troy.
all for love, all for love, Menelaus cries, yet so much exsanguination.
for that for which we fight will fade and grow old
the wrinkles of time will ravage her for that is the fate of all.

we we sit like statues either side of the mantle, two faces on the same coin, observing the obverse, we flip and spin, are the worlds within worlds, the microcosm of life.

What, said the red queen, is reality? as she laughs in our faces. poor Alice lies broken but then it's all a dream, like life
delving in the subatomic we see the makings of man
are but bone and sinew subject to decay.
we die before we wake and wake to what we fear and fear what we don't know, fearing the unknown the unknowable..

we are the self fulfilling prophecy, fulfilling itself and fulfilling us.
knowing we end at the beginning, who knows but You oh
Deity and you aren't spilling the beans, giving us only promises
we are not sure about as we have no insurance so are not assured
Each line dissolves into itself, invisible divisible multiple ad infinitum.
