Nine siblings
grew up together in Queens
in a house near the border with Nassau.
They were
5 brothers with
4 sisters.
They danced at each others weddings.
They gave each other nieces and nephews
and watched them
grow up before their eyes.
They watched each others hair
grow gray – then white.
Keeping their youthful hearts
they were labeled 'senior citizens'.
I recall two of the sisters
at a family wedding.
One had purple hair,
the other – blue.
Unfortunately,
as time would have it,
one by one
they went to their heavenly home.
Sadly,
the last of the sisters
has just left us for home.
She leaves two brothers earthbound
as she joins her siblings in Heaven.
The 4 sisters
now dance on a sunlit cloud
with 3 of their brothers
and other loved ones.
In time,
we, the earthbound ones,
shall join them on that cloud
for a reunion
even the likes of Heaven
has never seen.
