Unmistakably Mistaken Poem by Austin Lockwood

Unmistakably Mistaken

I have thought of dating you for quite some time
I admire how you grew up out of that shy troubled girl
and into a beautiful woman with a responsible adult life
I admire your kindness and optimism
You are generous and sweet
Your wavy red hair is natural and that can be quite rare these days
Your personality is spontaneous and wonderful
You look at the bright side of things
You can be goofy and fun
Yet you know how to relax and to chill
I liked who I saw in you and I still do
I like who you have become
I want you to be a part of my life even if just as a friend
I was mistaken about your interest in me as more than a friend
I thought you liked me that way
I tend to over analyze insignificant things
And give myself false hope that there is something there when there is not
Your words and actions in my mind indicated that you liked me the same way I did you
The way we text each other every day
The way we overused our smiley face symbols
The way you complimented me
The way that we sent each other pictures
The way that we got along so well
The way that you wanted to come visit me
Looking back on it now I can see you were just being friendly
Now I realize that I was mistaken
Your heart still belongs to someone else it seems
A relationship that you told me you didn't think would work out
But it is not my place to meddle in your love life anymore
You turned me down when I offered you my heart
But you turned down an incredible person
I would have went out of my way for you to make you happy
Eventually I will grow up and be out of your league
Were you not so quick to dismiss me you may have seen my potential
You may regret later that you didn't give me a chance when you had the chance to do so
However I'm glad that you turned me down
I'm relieved to have this misunderstanding resolved
Now I can focus on being a good friend to you
Like you have done to me
I would be blessed to have you as a friend
Because you are a true friend
It obviously was not meant to be between us
For if it were meant to be
It would already be

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I had a girl who I knew from along time ago and I just recently started talking to again. We talked and text every day for awhile and I really started to like her. Everything she did and said when I talked to her made me think she liked me the same way that I liked her. I was mistaken. She only liked me as a friend.
