Unfinished Poem by Phillip Alan Green

Unfinished

When I open up the pages,
Of my life which makes this book,
I turn the page to the very end,
Hold my breath and take a look.

The end is sad, the end is bad,
But then came the surprise,
It was only the beginning,
But I did not realise.

But when I needed you, I'd close my eyes and everything is fine,
The promise of being with you, right now, until the end of time.

When I look back, deep in thought,
On the chapters of my life,
And remember all those made up lies,
That cut me like a knife.

And when your down, your really down,
The kicking will not stop,
I had to stand to be a man,
And take the whole damn lot.

And when I needed you I'd close my eyes and everything was fine,
The promise we made, it is so strong, it will stand the test of time.

I shake myself until it hurts,
Of the future of tomorrow,
Sell myself to see you,
With any time that I can borrow.

And if, just if, the pages close,
And things just don't work out,
As life just has this habit,
Of kicking me about.........

Then when I need you, I'll just close my eyes and everything is fine.
The promise will stay with me always, until the end of time.
