Unaware Poem by Jessi Hardison

Unaware

Open me up like a book
Search deep inside my soul
For something I've never had
You realize this, and have a closer look

For the first time
I see something like empathy
Cross your face
Because you were unaware; I had not a dime

You retreat and look at me sadly
I can see you're holding back a smile
But when you're gone I see you've left something
You've given me what I needed so badly
