Triumph Poem by Derek Ouyang

Triumph

Where the rolling foothills rise up toward mountains higher
I walked into the crater of the Earth, encircled by a ring of fire
I could see to the west, the Sun setting from yellow sky to blue horizon, chasing his hopeful dreams
And to the east, the Moon rising from green peaks to pink grace, humming her peaceful song
I raised my fingers but they could not touch her body
And when I turned around, his light was quickly fading
So I began to twirl around in place, capturing a panorama of love
So that I couldn't forget you if I tried
Then I felt the urge to run faster than I had ever run before
And so I did- I ran north
Away from everything I had ever known
And then I noticed the birds were running beside my feet
And suddenly I was flying
Away from Earth, Sun, and Moon
Toward a future unfettered
My outstretched arms became wings
And I was my own creator
