Tree Poem by Kim McInnis

Tree

There is a tree
standing alone on the side of the road
outcast of its own nature
though it's August
its limbs are bare
cold and frozen
too numb to be embarrassed
too numb to feel at all

I feel myself
feeling

I'd like to go cold and electronic
for a couple moments each day
to for once see this world as itself
instead of the dream I perceive
