Touch Poem by Deona Skidmore

Touch

I can feel your body in my sleep,
tell me, is my heart this weak?
It's been too long since we have met,
tell me then, why my body can't forget.

I reach out, and feel your body there.
Is it really the truth that you don't care?
I can feel your fingers in mine,
intertwined.
The sun seems black without your shine

I've tried other people,
and my body screams LIES
I don't know how much longer I can continue to wake up,
and not see your eyes;

He is not the same,
though I have tried,
the treachery is something
my body cannot abide

It is your hand I'm reaching for,
and his that is here,
You are my everything
everything I fear.

Losing you would be the end,
you are not only a love,
But you are my closest friend.
