Toorak Poem by Francis Duggan

Toorak

This is the suburb of the high achievers
You won't find any battlers living here
The cheapest house it sells at half a million
For most people that would seem far too dear.

Here you will see the upper class of Melbourne
In posh cafes they have their cake and tea
And if they fart or belch whilst socializing
They blush a little and say 'pardon me'.

The houses have a wealthy look about them
And you won't see shabby gardens in this place
Reminds me of a beautiful young woman
Without a soul and just a pretty face.

I never did spend too much time in Toorak
And even in the shopping mall i felt out of place there
The people have the look of wealth about them
And every second one a millionaire.

You may feel that i'm a begrudging fellow
That the well to do of Toorak i begrudge
But good luck to them i say and may they prosper
For i am not the one to be their judge.

I've always felt so out of place in Toorak
The suburb of Victoria's upper class
I'd rather visit places in old Sherbrooke
Like Olinda, Kallista and Sassafras.
