To The Truck Driver Who Was Involved In A Tragic Accident Poem by Francis Duggan

To The Truck Driver Who Was Involved In A Tragic Accident

His stoppers gave out as he drove downhill
and the heavy truck sped on of it's own will
And the driver on his face the look of fear
As he strove to change down to a lower gear.

The locals sensed a tragedy in store
They saw the truck they heard it's engine roar
They watched the frightened driver steer his truck
And in their hearts they wished him better luck.

Young teenagers on skateboards at roundabout
On road that link Selby to Belgrave South
He steered his truck around the roundabout wrong side
The skating youngsters he had to avoid.

His truck went through hedge the hedge a house did hide
Crashed through the house and there young woman died
And a half hour later her babe breathed her last
And the driver stunned things happened all so fast.

In sleepless nights the driver pay the cost
He feel so bad that human lives were lost
But what matter most he did not intend to kill
His brakes gave out as he drove down the hill.

And this tragic accident was meant to be
For one cannot change the course of destiny
And tragic accidents do happen every day
And destiny will always have it's way.
