Those That Hold The Sky Poem by Sarah Elizabeth DuVal

Those That Hold The Sky

It was there I saw her
Walking 'long the wine deep sea
Not wishing to bother her,
Yet wanting to get a bit closer,
I quietly walked forward 'long the shore,
'Twas then I noticed a sparkling thing in her hand.
I walked forward a bit more,
In hopes of seeing what it was she held
'Twas then I saw it
A string of gems so beautiful and pure
As though they belonged to a goddess
I couldn't help but stare.
She glanced at me then
And I turned away and blushed
She smiled softly at me and seemed to speak to me, though without wordsI looked back to her and returned her smile
She seemed to motion me close to her
And being drawn to her the way I was went.
As I got closer to her
She reached her arms out to me
As if to embrace me -
Which she did with a kiss
Then pulling back said,
'The gods have found favor with you.'
With that she stepped back
And seemed to vanish
Into the wine dark sea
Yet, as she disappeared
From her hand fell the gems
Though they never touched the ground
Instead 'round my neck they appeared
As if a promise made by those that hold the sky.
