This Side Of Heaven Poem by Matt Mercer

This Side Of Heaven

The sky opened,
into empty streets, sun shining
an empty path
brought us into being, futures combining
We travelled along the new road that brought us here

Death and defeat,
lurked close behind, threatening us,
we struggled for a day
until the river was safe to cross, and the silence,
it echoed,
from what used to be, a memory died,
when we travelled, to where angels lied
It was a blissful paradise
where it used to reside
The pavements made with silver and gold
until the days went by, we understood,
the plot would unfold
On this side of heaven
the secrets remain forgotten, lost,
and untold
