They Say Suicide Poem by Oreoluwa Sanni

They Say Suicide

I've been driving on a highway,
Searching for my way.

Music playing on my sad days,
saying suicide on those bad days.

Demons whisper; sit back and let it all replay,
Watch all your problems like it's on Broadway.

Think of those bad thoughts, let them display.
How you lost yourself, walking down that dark hallway.

End your life that's what we say.
You are just a castaway.
A ditch, you will never find a way.
So go on, as we say do the deed, today.

He was in a trance,
Listening to their enticing words, he became their prey.
He broke out of the trance confused because everything was gray.

He slightly thought to himself,
"When did I lose myself? "
"Is there another way? "
"Will I do the deed today? "

"NO WAY! "

"But"
"What am I doing with my life anyway? "
"I pile all my problems, like ashes on an ashtray"

"When will my life change, I'm getting closer down to the end of the pathway"
"And the devil is standing at that doorway"

"NO WAY! "

"But"
"Maybe I am a castaway"
"I might as well end my life today."
"There is no hope for me, I'll never find a way".
"It seems to me there is no other way."
"The demons have me convinced,
so I better listen to the words,
do what they say,
and just obey."

He cried, he broke down in tears.
Not realizing there was hope for him right up the stairs.
He looked down straight at all of his fears.
And he thought ending his life will make them all disappear.
A solution, an end to all his problems, worries and cares.
That's how it was presented to him, how they made it appear.

He thought to himself, "Nobody will care".
"I'm probably worth nothing, I'm just wasting air".

But there was an alternative turn, right behind his pathway.
There was a staircase and he thought nobody was up that doorway.

But a light was at the end of that hallway.
And it pointed right to Yahweh.
He thought he once knew that way,
Memories of his youthful past, so he sat and he prayed.

"Is all this a mistake? "
"If life has a reset button, can I have a retake? "
"I want to drop all my sorrows, and pain, regrets and sad days."
"Because I'm tired of all the visuals when all my problems start and replay."
"Memories of those bad days, enticing tunes on those sad days."

"Forgive me for the steps, I was just about to take."
"Forgive me for all my sins, in my life I have ever made"

"I'm tired of this endless cycle, and feeling there is no hope for me."
"Will I ever find your pathway, I'm dead tired of seeking my way."
"I want to drive on your highway, can you please fix me, Yahweh."

"I believe that my life can change."
"And I hope one day I will see better days."

Not a lot of people, get to find that pathway.
But thank God he did, because it would have profited him nothing if he ended his life that way."

He thought about the pain but didn't think about the aftermath.
He was almost lured into a cage, he almost fell right into the devil's trap.
The only thing that would have been gained, is hearing the voice of the devil laugh.
So don't end your life like that keep keeping on, even though things seem bad.
Don't betray yourself, even though you are deeply sad.
God's right behind you, and he will give you a second chance.
His hands are wide open, now it's just up to you to advance.

Don't commit suicide.
There is more to life than it seems sometimes.
There is hope and a promise for a better life.
Walk that path, and understand at the end things will be fine.
