Them That Would Be Free: A Requiem For New Orleans Poem by Barely There

Them That Would Be Free: A Requiem For New Orleans

Rating: 2.5

Listen real close and I’ll tell what I done seen.
I seed them that would be free
running past Canal and Bourbon Street
not with they feet,
but they be swimming
trying to float ‘bove water
that come crashing in.
I seed my peoples lying in that street.
It was only the dead.
They the ones that
learned
some how
some way
we be free
we be free
