The Waiting Boat Poem by Ruta Mohapatra

The Waiting Boat

Tied to the shore, the boat sways
To the fine breeze and the gentle waves
It has been waiting for years
Since the day it had brought ashore
The little girl with downy hair

The boatman is nowhere near
He waits or not nobody knows
That he will return everyone knows
For that is how all stories end
With the last time that the boat sails

As she grew in age and experience
She has known that the boat awaits
And in all that she undertakes
She keeps in mind the gentle waves
On which the boat undulates

No longer the soft downy hair
No longer the smooth rosy skin
Her children grown and moved far
Her hectic days long over
She waits for the boatman to return
