The View Poem by Spencer RossEvans

The View

Searching through this self-created dystopia
Desperately looking for something to hold on to
And just as I was about to give up
There you were
With your hand held out, promising
The journey would be uphill from here
And from the top
The view is amazing

With a tightness in my chest
And my tongue down my throat
I accepted your outstretched arm
Because-though I'd never met you
Nothing had seemed more familiar

You lifted me with ease
And we stood face to face
The wind ceased to blow;
All sound remained silent
It was just me and you
Not a single thing between us

We knew it couldn't last
And of course, that day did come
You packed your things and left
A thousand miles stood between us
But from the top of the mountain, I see you,
And believe me, the view is amazing
