The Song Of Mermaid Poem by Jane Cai

The Song Of Mermaid

Once, in that beautiful evening
On the wave of the ocean
I saw you, my lovely prince
Was having a party on a cruise
Your smile, the style of your hair, your pace of dance
Were so much to me as a surprise

From then on
This once a year landing day is the only wish in my life
From then on
Living with you is the only dream I want it come to true

But the heartless witch
Who wants my soft voice to pay for a pair of feet
With which I could walk on the land and follow your steps
With which I have to bear the extreme pain for every step I move

I so much love my voice
I so much love to sing to the ocean
I so much love to dance with my sisters
But I so much love you
My silly prince

So that I give my voice
So that I come in front of you
To be your maid
To love you secretly

But I wish one day you would feel
You would find out my love to you
This is how I encourage myself
This is how I struggle with the pain from every footstep

But my darling prince
Why you always sigh when you look at my eyes
Why you not read my heart
Why you are so silly that not to know
I saved your life but not that noble’s daughter

But as long as you are alive
As long as I can survive
You and I will finally be together
Otherwise
The ocean would swallow me
Otherwise
I would turn to the bubbles and drift to nowhere…

I know this love comes only once in a life
So that I don’t give up
I know one day you would hear this song from my heart
So that I don’t cry for another pain from one step forward
