The Soldier's Dream Poem by Martins Akhoeneto

The Soldier's Dream

you came to me again
now and each night with a heavy face,
yet each time of your visit
I seem to be deaf and unrepenting
so engaged with sounds of armour
like there was a black scaffold
that shielded my sight completely.
from seeing those heartbreaking tears.

many a time you have come
to plant a garden of gleeful memories
yet I give you that deceitful smile
telling you that it's all well.
I pray it doesn't melt you down
knowing we'll meet here and here only
at the corridors of my dream
each time and each night of your visit.

defending you alone was too meagre
so I choose to rise in defense
to fight for every single soul
that is birthed with my father's blood.
so if the call returns in reality
announcing to you my unexpected end
know that I will love you so dear
even in the face of death.

A very long time I wrote a new poem. And today my muse has guided my thoughts toward writing this powerful piece. Martins Akhoeneto
