The Siren Poem by Melpomene's Tears

The Siren

Rating: 4.4

Stones polished by
the never ending splish splash
from the waves
They shine thru this midnight hour
with help from the moon
high away in the sky,
surrounded by her swirling dark angry clouds
Among the shiny stones,
there be flashes of white
grinning teeth
and of empty eye sockets
long devoid of eyes
they litter the sea cave
amids the grey-white barnicles
offering grim smiles to fishes
should they choose to swim by.
The cold fog sets in
shrouding the cave and more
concealing barren broken ships
with torn sails and battered masts
and more grinning skulls.
Hush now!
listen close! Can you hear?
there be music in the air
North wind whistles as he passes the cave
gently brushing the stones as his custom
and then,
She hums along.
She slides away from the shadows,
Long locks as black as the ocean's heart
ancient sea green eyes looking about
hungry for prey
Her scales of glass winking
like stars in the moonlight
She swims from rock to rock
playful as a shark
glorious and free
beautiful and evil
She sings,
with many voices
one like the perfume of a rare flower
one like barbs of steel dipped in honey
she beckons and persuades
weary land deprived travellers
and salty sea dogs sailors
to sing along with her songs
of pain and death.
