A ghastly scarecrow
Stands sentinel in the field
Captivates children.

A complete picture in just three short lines. A poem well crafted!
How the innocent children love a ghastly scarecrow! Brilliant....stars of course
There is another way to interpret this more than fine and well written haiku, perhaps children should be afraid and not too captivated, to learn that white does not always triumph over black. Or should I just say Happy Halloween. Worth another reread and most certainly another 10+. Take care Rose Marie and thanks again.
Scarecrow protecting the field! Thanks for sharing this poem with us.
You know what- -this poem sent a cascade of shivers down my spine. that last line - such a simple line- just two words but it sent me straight back to the first line's use of " ghastly" . This is clever writing, my friend... subtle, until it leaps at you like a panther out of a tree. 10+++++++++++

It may be scary for the birds and beasts but is interesting for the children. Short and sweet and meaningful write. Loved it.
