The River God And The Damsel Poem by Eferebo Chibuzor

"I'm no man;I'm no kind
Letme pass,we're passersby",
muttered the River god.

"Thine necklace of gold and diamond bracelets
Sparkleth my eyes
Like the stars awakened in the morning bliss.
Withhold not thine gold and diamond,
Shall I be thine delight
whence the sun is drown upon the black sea! "

Bespoke him in regal aura:
"The grasses and sand, mortal's abode
Therein the Nile, my castle
of many gold smileth ashore".

Speakest her so meek as the piano:
"I'm beauteous as the lilies by the blissful orchard,
Comely as the peacock, a million eyes glare!

Lookest thou away, art thou a mean man? "


Then intoned the River god:
"Ferry with me! "
Thence appeared a golden steed
And charioted them into the Nile.

Alack!Neither was the castle nor gold.
"Oh River god, River god!
Thou art my glee and my eternal doom! "
Therein, she was swallowed by the Nile!
