The Relics Of Sir Winston Churchill Poem by Sheena Blackhall

The Relics Of Sir Winston Churchill

His paintings in oils and watercolours
His medallions, speeches and trophies
His Chartwell House estate
His brood mares, followers, fillies.

His stud farm & all its equipment
His books and his manuscripts
A precious gold cigar case
A cottage and crucial documents

An unsmoked cigar. A diary.
His gold plated partial dentures
A signed photo to Joseph Stalin
Bronze busts, proofs of wartime ventures

His polka dot silk bow tie
His topper, homburgs and bowlers
His pure pink silk underwear
Siren suit and python slippers

His single breasted waistcoat
His pocket watch, striped trousers
And I daresay flakes remain
Of his skin in some noble carpets

And though they all survive him
Not one attended his wake
Those things, so close to a leader
Who came up to snuff when liberty was at stake
