The Prayer Poem by Dermot Healy

The Prayer

When Peggy was dying

Her son leaned over to whisper

The Our Father into her ear.

She opened her eyes,

'Things must be bad,' she said,

'that you've started praying.'

...........I detect some dark humor in this write....pretty sure even when people are very sick, they are aware of whatever is going on around them..

Mother son relation is exemplary and here the poet tells a beautiful story where dying mother understands the son I think.
