The Passing Of Autumn Poem by Katie Anon

The Passing Of Autumn

Sunshine brings remembrance of summer days
Turbulent wind and rain,
A reminder of the winter days to come.
The fruit trees finally drop their fruit
Apples keep going when other trees become bare.
The Blackberries, Elderberries and Sloes stick around
As scenery magically changes from green, to yellows and browns
Nuts ripen, finally dropped by the trees
In kin with changing weather mushrooms sporadically appear
Often following the rain.
The days get shorter and shorter with increasingly cold, dark nights
The sun's arrival and departure become part of the normal day
Bringing beauty and hope with it
Lastly the chestnuts ripen just in time for Christmas
As if they know their importance
Finally there is bleak but beautiful emptiness
Signalling the end of another year
