The Old Man Who Wanted To Be Stupid For Just A Moment.... Poem by RIC BASTASA

The Old Man Who Wanted To Be Stupid For Just A Moment....

the human stupidity is as
sweet as honey,

to choose between being
reasonable and being in love,
is a hard thing always to do.

this old man is funny, having
mustered all reason, having
mastered all lessons,

still he fails and falls
into uncanalized emotions.

well, somehow there is a way
to meet and be pretentious,
just to accommodate what love
gives as feelings,

the one that takes you to
heaven and yet pushes you
back to hell.

the old man did it, and he
failed, went into the alleys
of shame, but still knows how
to stand and regain that
integral composure.

one tastes the sweetness of love,
but only for a while, like a span
of a fly's life, or that of a
butterfly,

it is just a change of the season,
from dry to wet, from sky to rain,
and then everything returns to
their places again.

the old man reading his papers,
smoking his pipe, listening to mozart,
looking over the window,
seeing a fine weather ahead,
dresses himself up, wears back his
hat, walks in the park where he
greets everyone hello.
