The Old Covered Bridge Poem by Bonnie Collins

The Old Covered Bridge

Rating: 5.0

Crossing over the covered bridge
hearing the click click as we go
over each and every piece of wood

Looking out and seeing the river below
how the snowcaps from the evergreen
seem to wrap its edge with warmth

So many times as a child we would go
over this covered brirdge, and never
really understanding, how we were intruding
on mother natures serinity

Flying off in a scuff, a very angry hawk
either got its pray, or was about to leach
down for its kill

Memories still stay in my mind of that old
road, with the rivers edge so pleasant to view
in summer and a winter's wonderland in the cold

Today the bridge is gone, the area now has
been purchased, and all that remains is
just a vacant view, as the trees were all cut,
and mohter nature was robbed again

Forever in my mind I will hold the scenery
in my heart, as the distant crys of various
birds a chatter, and the squirels scattering
up the rivers bank's fallen accorns

The same sun rises and falls each day
however never will it shine as it did
when the old covered bridge was there.....

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

Bonnie Memories linger but things change. And the lovely picture painted will linger in my mind as well. Your poetry is easy to read and remember as well. Thanks Bonnie

I'm so glad that I found this one Bonnie. You have shown how man can so easily destroy such a beautiful piece of nature. This is one to keep for sure. Love, Andrew xx
