The Most Precious Gift Poem by MARY PAGDATI

The Most Precious Gift

Christmas comes but once a year, to remind us of that Light;
The star that shone in Bethlehem that very Special Night.
And though it stood above a manger - humble and forlorn,
It signalled unto us a prophecy - the ‘Prince of Peace' is born.

A Gift from God was given then, the most precious to mankind;
From a throne in His Kingdom, He chose the needy and blind.
Jesus forsook His Kingship and Splendour in Heaven above;
To display to us the meaning of ‘unconditional Love'.

We were not ready, to embrace Him, in spirit and in heart;
Neither then, nor now, that two millennia have passed.
Myriads of Goliaths now roaming, terrorizing from east to west;
They've lodged about on occupied grounds, as birds in alien nests.

Steadfast, they pledge their vows, sign and forge decrees;
They lay looming on the hunt, a prize aloof to seize.
The weak betrayed, they must retreat, as they cannot waver nor withstand;
Bound and oppressed, they flee the valleys, to across the desert sands.

Peace we must find, for the world to abound,
Neither bought nor borrowed, but with love profound.
If only we could see, beyond you and me;
We'd soon discover the truth - it's totally ‘Free'.
