The Moon Can’t Sleep Tonight Poem by Dónall Dempsey

The Moon Can’t Sleep Tonight

Rating: 5.0

The moon
can’t sleep tonight.

She frets
gets entangled in a tree

and can’t...break loose.

I hear her
crying to herself...weeping in the sky

caught up in the storm
of my being

without you.

The moon thrown against
a mountain

can’t break
but must endure

all night long...this long night

searching for a past
it haunts

whispering to her self:

“On a night like this
Love was lost! ”

I hear her
crying to herself

lost in a dream
she can’t awaken from

The moon can’t sleep...the moon can’t sleep.
