The Man I Was Poem by Barry Jablonski

The Man I Was

I'll never be the man I was
Or the man I could have been
And all the things said and done
Mirror everything I held within

On the road to self-delusion
My path was always right
And no matter where it lead to
My goal was firmly in sight

But had I listened to the truth
And seen with clear blue eyes
My path led straight to hell
Full of conceit, pride, and lies

So now I'll never know the man
I wanted the world to see
But if I had another chance
It sure as Hell, wouldn't be me
