The Loss Of Nose To Justice Poem by Rajendran Muthiah

The Loss Of Nose To Justice

A judge chisels out of a rock
a matchless, unusual statue
with all the limbs and senses
carved in elegance, and the people
adore and adorn her, calling her “Justice”.
If he should deliver verdicts
with evidences on record,
an illiterate man can do it with ease.
Why there be law-schools or long practice
of juniors under the skillful seniors?
It behoves him to study the case in depth
by paying heed to the words of the accused
and also the accusing and the prosecutor.
“Sinha and Kunha” – the names, the learned minds
won’t forget and History is proud to have them.
My pity goes to Yadhav uncle who was unaware
to forge the document or the mind of the honourable men!

When the gods are criticised bitterly in our country,
some advocates deny us rights to laugh at judges
who commit grave arithmetic errors
or read out the verdicts written by the clerks.
No one must be in jail. Give them bail
after all it is human to err. But two laymen whisper:
“Alliance in politics can afford to change verdicts
and dalliance with corporates fills the party-coffers.
It’s a colossal loss of several crores to the public
and the beauteous nose of Justice is chopped off! ”
