The Longest Night Poem by Mel Merrill

The Longest Night

The longest night I ever spent
Was alone with just my soul-
Seems the truth it had no place to hide,
It had no place to go.

And the hours passed by slowly
For the truth, it tried to flee-
Till I placed the thing in shackles,
Though I wished to set it free.

But at last the sun usurped the dark
Leaving only beams of light,
And I am not ashamed to say-
The truth was finally right!
