The Homecoming Of The Government Minister Poem by Francis Duggan

The Homecoming Of The Government Minister

Behind the citizens band through the streets lined with people he is played up and down
In the back seat of his chauffeur driven car he is welcomed to town
The Government minister he waves to the crowd
With a smile that resembles a smirk on his face he does look smug and proud.

He is welcomed to town with a huge hip hooray
For his local supporters this is a proud day
They are proud of the success of the once local boy
The perks and rewards of being a Government Minister he does enjoy.

But since from his success for them there is no financial gain
To the cynical 'twould be hard for to explain
The reason for the joyous celebrations and the huge street parade
And all of the fuss about him that is made.

Tomorrow they must go to work for their pay
And from him they never will benefit in any way
And tomorrow he will be back in his six million dollar home by the sea
Enjoying the good life with his wife and family.

From where he commenced his journey to renown
The Government Minister back in his Hometown
The streets lined with people to watch the parade
And they loudly applaud the v i p motorcade.
