The Highway Poem by Serena Heart

The Highway

Minds and purpose traveling along this highway
Perception high on a pretense of security
Flying free and fast yet trapped in the constraints of
Interlacing loops of concrete converging and dividing
pooling metal shells with mushy interiors
pulmonary arteries pulsing, shooting
pressure osmotic pumping these cells in every direction
to every point pushing
from the centers to the edges and back again,
to places high in pay and low in cost
open space, wild animals, and clean air antagonize
powerful hard metal monsters rushing
brushing deep intents
breathing fire, beating down the dust
blanketing the sky in brown haze
bearing orange sunsets
connecting the ganglia of lights together in
A network of vessels, each nerve a nuance
pulsing with the heat of life
