The Great Grey Bird Poem by Charlotte Peters Rock

The Great Grey Bird

A darker shape
Flapping lazy through the further clouds

The great grey bird
Bigger far in distant view
Than geese above my head

The bird of myth and dream
The Sunset Bird
The Albatross of Hope

And I could see it in the sky
Why me - not they?

My need is greater than the rest
The need for hope
The need for just
One bird of Confidence

To carry lightly on its back
My raging fire of bleak despair
And share it with the sky

Returning later with its view
And my reply
