#the Giant Of Africa. Poem by chize ryan ogunkah

#the Giant Of Africa.

A nation of overflowing abundance
teetering on the brink of despair yet,
foddering the avidity of occidental fat cats
casting lots for who gets what.
Draped in the conscious overthrow of community
To fill the cups of political Brutuses
She is paraded before the bidding circus
To appease the aspirations of her harriers
With Ojo and Hassan bartering her children's prospects
For a potluck and a temporary seat at the end of the decision table
Where their voices are muffled by terms of admittance
Into the territorial/provincial suicide.
The hearts of her scions beat for tomorrow
For tales akin to her contemporaries on the other side asking,
When shall tomorrow come
To realise the promises of yesterday
Made on the back of desperation
To clutch wide influence mortgaging posterity's hope.
But the time is now, the time for her is now
For vociferous revolution to upstage promiscuous destiny thieves
Rewriting the vision of her heroes past
Then bringing back hope into community
And respect beyond the killing floor of continental circuses
