The Games That Kids Play [children] Poem by R.K. Cowles

The Games That Kids Play [children]

[one of 2 attempts at a children poem]

Out in the yard playing cat and mouse
Climb up a tree o the tree house
Scurrying around playing tag
Changing mother's sheets into rags
Hide and seek
Every day of th week
That's what kids play
In their own way
Anything to keep them occupied
Occasionally a bicycle they ride

Throw and catch, video games
Stomping through puddles after the rain
Follow the leader through the neighborhood
Anything to keep them out of trouble is good
Old maid, crazy eights
That's what kids play
Only in their way
go-karts and flying kites
As long they're not out at night

Board games, card games
Scribbling, doodling it's just the same
Potsy, leapfrog and peek-a-boo
As long they're busy and not annoting you
Hopping on time to keep from disturbing
the path of the jump rope
Dolls, action figures, play money, but
in the bath only the soap

Hopscotching through all ten squares
To bed they go on their pajama wear
Sometimes roller skates or skateboard
Others a pail and shovel
On the beaches of the lake
Reciting a nursery rhyme, while with
the hands acting out the pattycake
