The Easy Route Poem by Tara Smith

The Easy Route

My ankles are submerged
The icy water licking at my calves
I stand there still and silent
Watching the sunset in awe

A stabbing pain in my heart
Caused by a lost soul
The pain had become too much
So they gave in

Life is extremely hard
Filled with pain, hate and love
Death is remarkably easy
Filled with everlasting freedom

The choice is before my eyes
I've known the answer all along
I never take the easy way out
This, the thought as i walk away
