The Earthquake (2) Poem by Sheena Blackhall

The Earthquake (2)

One day, unannounced, earth opened its jaws
And swallowed skeletons of houses
The shattered wreck of rooms and hopes
Like cupboards spilling displaced blouses

Churches and chemists, schools and bars
Disaster yawns where futures deaden
A doll with its frock ripped, stares wall-eyed
Down in the debris, Armageddon
