The Dogs Of War Poem by Charles Hancock

The Dogs Of War

The dogs of war was through with me
Now I long for the arrival of the banshee
Or has she came and I'm unaware
That I departed without fanfare

I can't see, feel, or even hear
Thoughts and dreams just disappear
My mind seems to be stuck in a loop
Spit and shine, I was a good troop

The battle was so brutal and intense
My bravery under fire was a pretence
I watched John's head turn to goo
The ground was covered in crimson roux

Turning away, I endured a searing flash
My cerebration has become a mishmash
Did I survive and am just unwell
Or deceased and this is where I dwell

There is no time, no clock to observe
A state in which thought is absurd
Everlasting numbness in my core
Perhaps I am no more
