The Day Poem by Nadine Melinda Kodi

The Day

I never thought I'd live to see the day,
to say a painful goodbye,
to reminisce on the things - to see the truth in the lies,
your lies, which you covered so discreetly,
under the covers folded so neatly.

I'm sorry are the words you never said,
the words you could never say,
I was a fool to hold on, I was FOOL to stay.

And they say, the people who know you say,
even we never thought we'd see the day,
this day, the day you eventually pluck up the courage,
express your rage and understand that there's nothing wrong in turning the page.

A new chapter, as some might call it,
A new happily ever after, as I call it,
I never thought I'd see this day,
I'm sorry, this time I can't stay!
