The Child Forced To Be A Man Poem by RIC BASTASA

The Child Forced To Be A Man

all the silver statues of men
are laughing
and i the child screams for
help
as i am new to this kind
of arrangement
they're too big and i am
too small
upon a slippery road
where the rain does not stop

Mama is not here definitely
to defend me
from all their mockeries

and so i am forced to become
a strong man
in such a short time

even without Papa's image
to follow
no shadows no light.
