The Centre Of My World Poem by Chukwuemeka Ezeamalu

The Centre Of My World

I had always been firm and in control
And you have always been around me, but
The flood came and swept me into the ocean
Where I drift—unguided and sadly lonely
Then the tides washed me off on a far shore
And you were there alone to tend my wants
Coincidence?

'Twas ephemeral, because the storm came
And I was blown far away, a country unmapped
I walked without compass in search for lives
Dawns till dusks without sun or stars to trace
Only loneliness and loud silence accompanied me
But there you were again on the first crossroad I found
I didn't get it!

I felt like I owed you a heart and tendered one
But I was just as uncertain as unconvinced,
I left on a one way ticket to a lonely island
The tsunami came and cleared it off the map
And I swam with the waves unconscious;
While fishing, you caught me floating adrift
Finally lucid!

It wasn't coincidence
And I got it now!
We weren't just made for each other,
But you have always been the centre of my world
Where I'll always fall into, come what will!
