The Celebrity Poem by Matthew Holloway

The Celebrity

The mindless well known
The celebrity
Famous for little else
Than being on a television show
Some without talent
Mostly without talent
The characters, so called
Revered and celebrated
A toast raised to nothingness
An empty world filled up
With empty shells
Reality or a scripted version
Of what it actually isn't
Celebrity culture
A lie in itself, contradiction
Still, still it is sought after
The fame, false adulation
The followers, praise
The abusers, haters
The paparazzi
The news headlines
Desire for fame and freedom
For peace and prosperity
No two such ideals
Fall within the same hand
To acquire celebrity
Is to release freedom
And become the cliché
You once hated
The world of celebrity
Mostly talent free
Where art becomes
The enemy
