The Biological Clock Poem by Francis Duggan

The Biological Clock

The biological clock on my life it keeps ticking away
It does silently tick on by night and by day
Until to the scythe of the reaper I fall
The end of life's journey is ahead of us all.

My better days were lived in Seasons long gone
And the clock on my life it just ticks on and on
But the same for the celebrity as you and me
As mortals we are born to mortality.

Is the sheep of the paddock any different to I
She was born to a mother and she has to die
Perhaps to be slaughtered for humans to eat
We are omnivorous and many of us like meat.

The biological clock on my life ticking fast
My physical prime was in the distant past
Yet I hope to live for as long as I can
And die in my sleep as a very old man.
