The Beginning Of An End Poem by Mycho Jamil

The Beginning Of An End

Lost in thought, I lean my back on the trunk of a tree
The petrichor emanating from the grass,
The psithurism resonating in my ears,
They remind me of who we used to be

A gush of cool and humid breeze
It scintillates an epoch of our days
The days where I witness your brightest smile
As you link your arms to mine

This pain that shackles my heart,
It's beyond what words can describe
The pain runs deeper
Like the roots of a winter rye

The scent of dewdrops and sunflowers
Is the ambience you bring as you embrace me
Yet now they remain evanescent
As you are now beyond my reach

Tulips and daffodils, they spring anew
Hawthorns and thistles, they abound;
I don't need to cry my eyes out
For the skies are doing it for me

As I face the dawn of spring,
I cling onto a tiny ray of hope
A hope of starting over again,
With you, smiling by my side

But you carved it in as you left,
The fact that this, my love,
Is the beginning of an end,
The end of our world.
