The Beast Poem by Eddie Rodgers

The Beast

There’s a beast that lives within me and he wants to come out each day, and feast upon the world he has now come to call his prey. There are days he sleeps and slumbers, and dreams of the world he seems to wonder, and tries to find a way in, instead of being kept a secret and hidden. He craves to taste peoples minds, and live off the thoughts they have come to leave behind, leaving them with nothing but a thought of being alone, for in their minds he has now begun to call his everlasting home. His intentions are not to ease but more so to please his bottomless pit where victim after victim tongues, hearts, and minds have come to fit. There are days I scream and shout for him to leave and just to get out, but he merely laughs and says you must come to grips and grasp, that I’m more apart of you then you will ever know, and seeing me leave would be like watching your own self go. Why are you in my mind I ask when my mind seems to rumble, because this is what I want and will have he always seems to grumble. Cant you go somewhere and live on your own? Why yes my dear your mind is what I have chosen to be my home. Day by day I can feel my hopeful thoughts and dreams being taken away by his rage, in my own body and mind I have come to be caged. Like a bird stuck in a tree with broken wings of misery. He is the beast that lives within and no matter what I do I have the feeling I will never be able to win.
